Department of Biology
Justin R. Anderson, Ph.D.
Associate Professor & Chair
I teach a range of courses based on the needs of the department. Below are short blurbs about recent or regular offerings.
BIOL105: Biology for Health Sciences
Taught as needed.
This course serves as the prerequisite for non-majors who need upper-level biology courses. Topics include cell biology and genetics, as well as the nature of scientific investigation.
BIOL334: Microbiology
Taught regularly as needed.
A non-majors microbiology course mostly investigating the biology of bacteria and some viruses. Labs introduce culture methods, ubiquity of microbes, and other skills necessary for nursing, nutrition, and other fields.
BIOL409: Virology
Taught spring semester of odd years.
An introduction to viruses, their life cycles, evolution, and host relationships. Viruses are presented according to Baltimore classification. Labs develop virus-culture skills that are later applied to an individual project.
BIOL460: Advanced Seminar in Biology
Taught as needed.
A discussion-based course on a particular topic that varies by semester. The course has focused on sexually-transmitted diseases and parasitic zombism.
